RECURRING CYSTITIS: PROPERTY OF THE HIBISCUS

ElliroseTM, a particular extract from the calyxes of hibiscus flower, a plant that grows in the regions of central-western Africa, has shown to have specific antiseptic properties on some germs responsible for very common bacterial infections.

ElliroseTM, thanks to a patented extraction method capable of obtaining the maximum concentration of active ingredients, has active ingredient extracts of:

  • 45% of polyphenolic compounds, in particular Proanthocyanidins
  • 40% of organic acids, in particular protocatechuic acid, citric acid and malic acid.

Thanks to these active ingredients ElliroseTM has proved effective in urinary infections of bacterial origin because:

  • Proanthocyanidins inhibit the adhesion of the bacterium to the cells of the bladder mucosa which consequently can be eliminated in the urine
  • Organic acids cause rapid acidification of the urine which contributes to creating an unfavourable environment for bacterial development

Recent studies have demonstrated the specific ability of Hibiscus extract to inhibit the growth and development of strains of Escherichia Coli, a bacterium responsible for a large number of cases of recurrent cystitis, and the ability to antagonize the development of the main potentially pathogenic yeast, Candida albicans, responsible for a large number of uro-gynecological problems.

REACURRING CYSTITUS: THE INFLAMMATION ROLE

In the course of recurrent cystitis, the inflammatory state of the bladder, caused by a bacterial infection, tends to persist over time, even when the bacterial component has apparently been eradicated.

In these cases, the use of particular plant substances, rich in proteolytic enzymes, capable of exerting a specific anti-inflammatory and anti-edema action in the urinary system is particularly useful.

In particular, Bromelain, extracted from the stem of the pineapple, Papain, obtained from papaya and Mushroom Protease extracted from the Aspergillus Oryzae mushroom, are particularly effective as they are able to each act at a specific pH level, i.e. they are able to exert the maximum anti-inflammatory effect regardless of the degree of acidity in the urine of each subject.
